HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO HAVE A PAP SMEAR?

The Pap smear examination is, in principle, free of charge. You only pay for the consultation with your GP or gynaecologist. You will receive part of this back from your health insurance fund. You therefore only pay the patient contribution on the condition that your GP or gynaecologist operates within the health insurance fund. Find out on your health insurance fund’s website whether your GP or gynaecologist operates within the fund.
You will only receive an invoice in the following cases:
•    If abnormal cells are found and an HPV test is needed.
•    If your Pap smear needs to be assessed by a second pathologist.
•    If the pathologist who assesses your Pap smear does not fully operate within the health insurance fund and is entitled to request a supplement. This is only possible if you have been informed in advance that the examination will be carried out by a pathologist who does not operate within the health insurance fund and who charges a supplement and you have agreed to this.
